Mr. Ernest Carr Boyette, 86, of Clinton died Thursday at Mary Gran Nursing Center, Clinton, NC.

Mr. Boyette, born in Duplin County was the son of the late Howard Boyette and Janie Bass Boyette. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by three sisters, Josie Bell Boyette, Joanne King Harris, and Edith Breshears, two brothers, Leon E. Boyette and Thomas H. Boyette. In 1948 he married Dorothy "Dot" Pauline King of Charlotte, NC. He was a Corporal in the US Army during World War II, at the age of 20 he landed on Omaha Beach at Normandy, France during the D-Day Invasion. He was reluctant to speak of his wartime experiences for many years but eventually spoke of sailing aboard the ocean liner Queen Mary, arriving just in time for D-Day and he described his unit's service under General George S. Patton in France.
After the war he was a retail manager in Charlotte. He returned to Clinton in 1959 and for the next 40 years, he was a business owner, first the Clinton Discount House, which later evolved into Ernie's Furniture. Ernie was friendly and outgoing and was always happiest when interacting with customers and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Pauline "Dot" Boyette, and their two sons, Ernest C. "Toby" Boyette, Jr. and wife Melba of Clinton, and Stephen M. "Steve" Boyette, Sr. of Clinton, three grandchildren, Stephen Boyette, Jr. of Dandridge, TN; Emily and Elizabeth Boyette of Clinton, one sister, Nadine Lohr of Orange, VA; one brother, John E. Boyette of Faison, NC.

The family received friends at 1pm, the hour before services at the funeral home.

The funeral services were held at 2pm, Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Michael Shook officiating.
