Found in The State 23 May 1979: Melton Adams Sr., of 2494 Senate St., died Saturday at his home. Surviving are two sons, J. W. Adams of Washington, D. C., and Melton Adams Jr. of Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Lawrence of Columbia and Mrs. Rebbie Hoff of Hamden, Conn.; two brothers, Taft Adams of Hopkins and Crawford Adams of Aiken; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. today at J. P. Holley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Robert Boyd Sr. Burial will be in Palmetto Cemetery.

Conflict: the SSDI gives his DOB as above. His WWI Draft Registration card gives it as 05 April 1896.

He can be found on the 1910 US Census for Center, Richland, SC at age 11, race listed as mulatto, living with parents Walter, 27 and Lucy, 28, and siblings, Douglas, 12, Rebba, 9. Rosa, 8, Edner, 6, Crawford, 4, and Walter Jr., 6 months.

His parents are Walker Adams and Lucy Nixson.
