Barbara Jean Alford, 83, Hokes Bluff, Ala, daughter of Clarence and Mattie Lou (Baker) Edwards was a native of Gadsden, Ala. She and her husband, Zelman Alford, owned Alford's Grocery store in Gadsden from 1969 until its closing in 1990. After the store's closing, Mrs. Alford went back to school at the age of 60 and obtained an Associate degree in Computer Science. She worked in the Gadsden State Community College computer lab 19 years and retired at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, and her son, Ronald Edward Alford. She is survived by sons, Steve and David; daughters, Becky, Nancy, and Elizabeth.
