Ernest Hile was the brother of my father, Chester Hile. He lived in Lincoln City, IN until he entered service Sept. 21, 1917. Sent to Camp Taylor, KY; assigned to Co. L, 335th Infantry. Transferred to Camp Shelby, MS. Embarked May 2, 1918. Assigned to Co. C, 102nd Infantry, 26th Div. Wounded July 29, 1918, Chateau Thierry. Died from wounds, Aug. 10, 1918. Buried in Cemetery at Suresnes, France. Records of this period were destroyed in a fire in St. Louis, so his military records are not available. I was able to contact someone who could tell me that there is no record of his burial in France. More than likely he was buried temporarily, and then his remains were sent home. Parents could make that request.
