Note from Darrell Brown:
The 1930 census finds Maxine's family had moved to St. Louis Township in Pottawattomie County, OK. It was probably there that Maxine finished her schooling in the 8th grade. By 1935 she had moved to Oklahoma City and was living with her sister Elsie (Davis) Simpson and her family, at 5318 S. Byers. The 1940 census reports her living there, single and unemployed. In 1941 she married Dempsey Brown and assisted in the operation of his night club. They divorced on September 28, 1945, and again on June 12, 1957, and remarried both times. They never had children.
On July 6, 1959, a drunken man forced his way into their home at 600 SW 7th and beat Maxine badly, resulting in facial fractures. She managed to run to the home of a neighbor, who called police. They arrived quickly and arrested the man, who confessed to the crime. Her husband "Jack" arrived soon after the police did.
In 1967 Dempsey died, and Maxine died 9 months later, age 46, from cirrhosis of the liver.
