Billy Joe Adams

A memorial graveside service is planned at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens near Paris for retired Colt Industries production superintendent Billy Joe Adams of Paris. Gary Collier will officiate.

No visitation is scheduled. McEvoy Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Adams, 82, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Henry County Healthcare Center.

His wife, Janice Brummitt Adams, survives. They were married on Dec. 22, 1951.

Born May 20, 1930, in Whitlock, he was a son of the late H. Gustan Adams and Sue B. Claxton Adams.

Adams was a member of First Christian Church, where he was an elder and choir member. He attended local grade schools and graduated from Grove High School, where he was captain of the undefeated 1949 football team. He was inducted into the Paris-Henry County Sports Hall of Fame and served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired after 37 years with Colt Industries. He also was a member of Paris Masonic Lodge 108, where he received last Masonic rites.

Besides his wife, he leaves one son: Michael D. Adams of Paris; a son-in-law: Ronnie G. Boyd of Paris; two brothers: Ray (Peggy) Adams and Robert (Peggy) Adams, both of Paris, and both of whom are physicians; three grandchildren: Joshua B. (Reba) Perritt, Eric S. Adams and Adam D. Boyd; and two great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter: Allyson Ann Adams Boyd; and his in-laws: B.B. Brummitt and Georgie B. Luszcz.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis 38101-2151 or to the First Christian Church choir, 101 S. Poplar St., Paris.
