Elizabeth Corty Adler, a resident of Earlysville, Virginia, died of breast cancer in Littleton, Colorado on Thursday, March 5, 2015. She had recently moved to Colorado to be with her daughters, Renee Adler Brooks and Katherine Elizabeth Brown.

Elizabeth or "Elee" as she was known as a young girl, was born in Danville, Virginia, on November 19, 1945, the daughter of Renee and Martin Donelson. In 1961 she moved with her mother and siblings to Charlottesville. An accomplished musician, she played first chair clarinet, not only in the Lane High School band, but also in the Virginia high school all-state band. She also played piano, classical and Spanish guitar, the bassoon and oboe; playing the latter for some years in the 80's in a quartet in Charlottesville.

She graduated from Mary Baldwin College in 1968, and subsequently was awarded a PH.D. in Spanish Literature at the University of Virginia in the early 70's. In 1984 she co-founded and ran Adwel Info Systems, one of the first computer businesses in Charlottesville, with her husband, Winfried Adler. Elizabeth most enjoyed installing systems for customers and supporting them. She was a patient and tireless teacher.

For several years she taught Spanish at Piedmont Community College. She was passionate about the Spanish language and helping others learn. She was an accomplished linguist, also speaking German and French fluently; and she studied Italian, Hebrew, Latin and, in later life, Polish "for fun".

Above all, Elizabeth was a committed and evangelical Christian. She spent many years teaching a bible class and counseling women in the Fluvanna Prison, and for several years also taught a regular bible class at Morningside Assisted Living in Charlottesville. She volunteered at a local Charlottesville Pregnancy center, and offered endless support to foreign ministries, with a primary focus on Guatemala.

She was predeceased by her parents; her stepfather, Fred Hays of Morningside; and her husband of 43 years; and her brother, Martin Donelson of Danville.

In addition to her daughters, she is survived by their husbands, Jeff Brown and Dan Brooks, of Littleton; her son, W. Alexander Adler of London and his wife, Aleksandra; by her sister, Virginia Donelson Collins of Somerset, her brother, Willis Donelson of Danville, and her half-brother, John Donelson of McLean; by five grandchildren, four nieces and two nephews.

Family services were held in Colorado and here in Virginia. If you would like to make a donation on her behalf please visit http://javierin.missionsplace.com/oasis-christian-school/
