Brett Alan Dewell, husband, father, brother and grandfather, moved from this earth to go with our heavenly father with family surrounding him Monday, April 6, 2015, in the ICU at OU Medical Center. He was born April 15, 1959, to Derwood Douglas Dewell, DDS, and Beatrice Mae Dewell in Holton, Kan. Brett grew up in Oklahoma City, graduating from John Marshall High School in 1977.
Brett and his brother, Brian, went to work at an early age, delivering newspapers, working as car hops, mowing yards and working at local eating establishments. Brett worked at Rainbo Baking Company, aka Sara Lee Bakery, aka Earthgrains, until his retirement in 2007 after 25 years of service. For the last seven years, he has worked for the University of Oklahoma in facilities management and housing. Brett always put his family first. He loved his children and spent hours coaching them in sporting activities and also teaching them about life. He was a founding member of Christ’s Church of Norman. He served faithfully as a deacon in the church providing Communion meditation and leadership to the church.
Brett is survived by his wife, Rhonda, and his children Jimmie, Morgan, Douglas and Brandon; his granddaughter, Jasmine; his brother, Brian Dewell and wife Sherry and their children Clint (spouse Nikki and their children) and Lydia Hopkins (spouse Jordan and their children); his sisters-in-law, Gaitha Milligan (spouse Ron) and Kim Tramposh (spouse Jim and their children and grandchildren); Rhonda’s parents, Gordon and Norma Frazier and Leon Price and Carole Pence; as well as Brett’s aunt and uncle, Bernice and Dale Roller; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts and uncle.
He was preceded in death by parents, Derwood Douglas and Beatrice Mae Dewell; grandparents Arthur and Glessenger Faye Dewell and Arthur and Claridel Deeter; and uncles Alan Deeter and Jack Deeter.
As we say goodbye to him, we know that he is now in the arms of Jesus, who will take very good care of him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ’s Church of Norman or to the college fund at First Fidelity Bank for Douglas and Brandon Dewell, his sons.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
