Hyannis - Arthur D. Archer, 87, died Nov 24, 2007 after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Elsie (Betty) Miller Archer for 52 years.

Mr. Archer graduated from Barnstable High School and served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. He worked for the Barnstable Police Department, with 38 years of service.

He is survived by his children, Robert A. Archer and his wife, Kathryn, Curtis P. Archer, and Mary Archer; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Archer was predeceased by his son Richard C. Archer, and brother Sidney Archer. A graveside service was held at Oak Neck Cemetery in Hyannis.

Arthur and Elsie Archer's son Richard C. Archer was killed in action during the Vietnam War. Richard was serving his country aboard the USS Mansfield DD-728 when the ship was hit by enemy artillery rounds during "Operation Sea Dragon" on 25 September 1967. Richard was only 23 years old, and recently married while on leave in Hyannis.
