Carl "Charles" Ostrom was born to Johan Ostrom (in Sweden they spell it: Ästrum) and Margta (Andersdotter-Broms) Ostrom in Bjuraker, Sweden; on Sept 16th, 1861. He had 4 older siblings (Anders "Andrew", Johan, Anna Helena, Pehr Erik)

He immigrated to America on Sept 16, 1882, coming to Rockford, Illinois. In 1883 he moved to Minneapolis where he was employed.

He married on Nov 10, 1884, to Anna Orre/Orrie. They made their home in Merriam Park, St. Paul until 1886, when they came to the Lewis Lake community. Born to bless this union were 10 children, eight of who survived. His wife Anna passed away Feb 1st, 1938.

He lived on the home place at Lewis Lake until 1941, when the Great Depression caught up with him and forced him to make his home with his children. He passed away Sunday, Oct 24th, 1943, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Alvin and Esther (Ostrom) Anderson of Columbia Heights, at the age of 82 years one month and 8 days. He had been in poor health for the past two years.

Mr. Ostrom was a charter member of the Lewis Lake Mission congregation and always took a very active part in the work of the church. He also helped organize school district no. 15, of which he served as clerk for 27 years, helped organize the Day Co-op creamery, serving as president of the board for many years, served on the board of the Day Mutual Telephone Company and he also served on the board of the Spring Vale Mutual Insurance Company.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday afternoon, Oct 29th, by Pastor Marden Wickman, and were held at the Lewis Lake Mission Church. Burial was made in the family lot in the Lewis Lake Cemetery
