Obituary: Clifford (Cliff) Berg, 88, of the Golden Age Manor, Emo, Ont., Passed away Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999 at the Emo Hospital in Emo. He was born Jan. 8, 1922 in Kintyre, N.D. to the late Leroy and Amanda Berg. At an early age, Clifford moved with his family to Canada and settled in North Branch, Ont. On November. 10, 1941, he was united in marriage to the former Myrtle Stang in Emo, who later predeceased him July 9, 1975. Clifford logged in the bush and farmed in the area until his retirement in 1977. Later on August 22, 1981, he was united in marriage to the former Ethel Daley in Stratton, Ont. Canada. In earlier years, Clifford enjoyed cross-country skiing and their cabin on Grassy River throughout the years, and loved to fish and hunt. He also was a member of the knox United Church in Stratton and Emo. Clifford enjoyed spending time together with family and friends at the Stratton Senior Center and at Golden Age Manor, and always loved and enjoyed being with all of his family. He also was predeceased by his second wife, Ethel Berg in 1992; one brother, Alton Berg in 1922; two sisters, Gladys Welch and Lucille Gemmell; and one son-in-law, Art Neilson. Clifford is survived by his nine children, Dale Berg and wife Shirley, and Katherine Neilson, all of North Branch, Ont. William Stang and wife, Evelyn, of Arbor Vita, Ont., George Stand and wife, Grace, Wilmer Stang and wife Marjorie, and Edith and Husband, Bradley Haw, all of North Branch, Ont. Bobby Olson and wife Helen, of British Columbia, Jean and Husband, Kim Kerber, of Thunder Bay, Ont. and Christine Halverson of Kenora, Ont. Also surviving are 34 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn and husband, Dennis Armstrong, of Stratton, Ont., Alice and husband, Ed Hartviken, of Thunder Bay Ont., and Vivian and husband, Garnett Neilson, of Stratton, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were help Friday, August 6, 1999 at 1 p.m. at the Knox United Church in Emo, Rev. Frances Flook officiated, with interment in Pineridge Cemetery in North Branch. Eulogy was given by his grandson, Dwight Stang. Visitation was held Thursday evening 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont. Pallbearers were Clifford's grandsons, Curtis Berg, Lionel Berg, Clayton Strand, Kenny Haw, Keith Haw, and Marty Neilson. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Emo Hospital Renovation fund, 260 Front St., Emo Ont., POWIEO.
