Phyllis I. Cox, 81, of Bloomington died on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010 at Garden Villa in Bloomington. She was born on April 17, 1929 in Albion, Illinois the daughter of Ralph L. Gubbins and Edna (Bowers) Gubbins Oakley. Following high school, she attended the Lockears Business College in Evansville, IN and became employed by Means and Co. prior toher marriage. She had previously worked for Korach Bros, in Albion.

Shortly after her marriage, she then spent her adult life as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. A devoted mother, she served as a girl scout leader and troop treasurer, was a longtime member of Woodhaven Christian Church and served as a deacon at the church.

Survivors include her daughter, Jeanine A. "Jeannie" Cox of Bloomington, her son and daughter-in-law, John and Kim Cox of Greene County, her grandson, Justin Cox, three great grandchildren; Samuel Everett Cox, Teghan Lindsey Nicole Cox and Shayla Ann Bell Cox, and two half-brothers, Kenneth Gubbins and Larry Gubbins, both of Cecil, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alva Junior "A.J." Cox in October of this year, her parents, her step-father, Ivan Oakley and one brother, John Gubbins.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 at Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Sutherlin officiating. Burial will be at Harmony Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
