Charles Frederick "Charlie" Frizzell, son of Eli and Everna (Walker) Frizzell, was born October 10, 1913, on a farm west of Woodburn. He was the youngest in a family of nine children.

Charlie attended schools in Clarke and Decatur counties. Most of his younger life was spent near Garden Grove, moving back to Clarke County in the early 1930's. He married Mabel Evelyn Mason, daughter of Ode and Josie (Waugh) Mason, on December 23, 1933, at the Christian Church in Grant City, Missouri. After their marriage, they lived with Charlie's parents, as his father's health was failing and Charlie helped them. Mabel continued teaching school through 1934.

Charlie and Mabel moved to the Hootman farm south of Woodburn, where their daughter, Peggy Joan, was born. From 1940 to 1944, they lived on the Pat Howard farm located south of the Smyrna Friends Church. Mabel did supply teaching at the Smyrna School in 1944. Charlie drove the school bus for LeRoy school, long before gravel roads. He also farmed and always had time for his horses.

They moved back to the Woodburn area to the Ralph Swan farm on Highway 34 in 1944. In 1949, they moved to the Lewis Neal farm 1-1/2 miles west of the Swan farm and lived there until 1964. Roy Frizzell bought the George Evans farm in 1964 and the family moved there. On May 9, 1972, Charlie passed away at this home.

Horses and ponies were the family entertainment. Charlie was charter member of the Clarke County Sheriff's Posse, he helped build the rodeo arena in Osceola. He enjoyed pulling horses and was a member of the Osceola Saddle Club. The family belonged to the Woodburn Christian Church.

From information submitted by Peggy Frizzell for the book, "Woodburn, Iowa: Life in a Railroad Town" compiled by Steve & Lynnette Davis.
