MOSCOW — Ruby Z. Phillips Alexander, 97, of Moscow, Ark., died March 25, 2013 at her home in Moscow, Arkansas.
She was born February 24, 1916 in Tamo, Arkansas to the late Sarah and Richard Phillips. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with the New Hope Baptist Church where her membership remained until her death. She faithfully served as Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member and Mother of the church.
Mother Ruby worked as a homemaker for many years and Vaster High School as a cook until her retirement.
She united in holy matrimony to the late Malvin "Major" Alexander. To this union two children were born. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson Emmett Thomas Jr.; brothers, John Phillips, Warren Phillips, Claudius Phillips; sisters, Mary Tardy, Mattie Williams, Willie MacFadden, and son-in-law Harold Alexander Jr.
Survivors include two daughters Arjetta (Emmett) Thomas of Grady, Ark., and Kathy (Vernon) Joyner of Park Forest; two grandsons, Edwin (Barbara) Thomas of Omaha, NE and Harold Alexander III of Chicago Heights, Ill.; four granddaughters, Taren Kish Alexander of Springfield, Ill., Tiffany Alexander of Chicago Heights, Ill., Lisa (Eddie) Williams of Star City, Ark., Shannee' Thomas of Atlanta Ga.; eight great grandchildren, Marcus Thomas, Micole Simmons, Taleace Thomas, Breanna Thomas, Kyle Thomas, Terron Berry, Jae Williams and Jasmine Williams; sisters, Sammie Scott of Pine Bluff, Ark., Freddie Perry of Ford Heights, Ill., Everett Oliver of Forest Park, Ill., and Roberta Woods of Chicago, Ill.; sister-in-law, Joyce Phillips of Chicago, Ill., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013 at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley Blair officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Grady, Arkansas by the P.K. Miller Mortuary. Visitation will be held at the mortuary on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. Mrs. Alexander will lie in repose at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
