John J. Capan, 84, passed away on May 31, 2013 after an extended illness.
He was born in Newark Ohio to the late John and Mary (Pribonic) Capan, Mr. Capan was a lifelong Akron resident. A bricklayer, he retired from Local #7 in 1985. He was an active member of St. Bernard's Parish serving as an usher, parish council, and volunteering in many other capacities at the church over the years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, he leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Patricia L. (nee Lemmons); daughter, Deborah (Thomas) Motil; sons, David J. (Jeannette), Gregory M., Jeffrey M. (Kimberly), Brian J., Michael T.; sister, Mary Turkal; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, June 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant St.). Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. John had a great connection to St. Bernard's Parish. "He had an incredible memory of its history", Father Dan Reed said. John had great neighbors and friends. Everyone will miss John. He was always positive, and helped many people. He was always fixing something at church, or putting in a new rail. He told great stories.
