Mr. Lewis Andrews, prominent farmer of the South Divide district, passed away at the St. Francis Hospital last Sunday, January 30 following a long siege of illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at ten o'clock at the Federated Church in McDonald. Rev. J. A. Plantz of the Atwood Methodist Church was in charge of the services. Rev. Clifton Bell of the Federated Church assisted.

Mr. Andrews was one of Rawlins County's more prominent farmers and his passing will be deeply felt by the many whom he met in his long, active life. He was active in the farm bureau work and always a force to be counted on in any community work.


Lewis Andrews was born in Rome, Jefferson Co. Ill., on April 9, 1871, and he passed away at St. Francis, Kansas, Jan. 29, 1939, at the age of 67 years, 9 months, and 20 days.

At an early age he moved with his parents to Lawrence Co. Ark., where he grew to manhood. In 1891 he moved to Republic Co. Kansas. On March 3, 1897, he was united in marriage to Miss Sylvia M. Sellers, of Narka, Kansas and they moved to Rawlins County, Kansas where he resided until his death.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Orvil L. Andrews, of Atwood, Kansas, Floyd W. Andrews of McDonald, Kansas, and one daughter, Mrs. Wilcie Robbins, of Atwood, Kansas, one daughter having died in infancy; three grandsons and five granddaughters.

Also surviving are two brothers, W. C. Andrews of San Bernandino, California, and J. L. Andrews, Salina, Kansas, three sisters, Mrs. W. H. McMullen, of Oberlin, Kansas, Miss Maude E. Andrews, Salina, Kansas and Miss Sara V. Andrews, Kansas City, Missouri.

In his early years he united with the Baptist Church, continuing in that faith until his death.
