Jane Montgomery, daughter of Charles C. Montgomery and the former Margaret Reynolds, was born on the 3rd of February 1779 in the area around Little River in the Fairfield District of South Carolina. Jane was the second of eleven children born into the family. Jane's parents were both Scotch-Irish Presbyterians originally from County Antrim, Ireland; who emigrated with their parents to South Carolina around the early part of 1770's.

Charles and Margaret settled in the Fairfield District and were charter members of Ebenezer A.R.P. Church, known locally as Old Brick Church. It was here that Jane met her first & second husbands, James M. Bell (1778-1809) and Dr. Henry Meriner (1787-1831).

In 1798, at the age of 19, Jane married James M. Bell. After James Bell's death; Jane married Dr. Henry Meriner. After Dr. Meriner died in 1831, Jane widowed for the second time married a childhood friend, James Kincaid. Soon they emigrated west with many family and friends to the area around Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. Here they organized the Starkville A.R.P. church and established the community of Starkville.

Jane Montgomery Bell Meriner Kincaid departed this life on the 5th day of August 1849. She was laid to rest in the churchyard cemetery; soon to be followed by her husband, James Kincaid, ten days later.
