Birth: Jan. 27, 1917
Death: Jan. 10, 2008

Shortly after midnight, January 10th, 2007, Margaret Cage Whitley Adams was lifted softly and tenderly by the Angels up to God's arms to be reunited with the family who predeceased her: her mother, Maude Hector Cage, her father, Stephen B. Cage, sister Nettie Cage Beane, brothers Horace Cage, Tom and his wife Bess Cage, and Stephen and his wife Mildred Cage.

Margaret was born in Smithville, TX, January 27th 1917, and later moved to Pearsall, TX, with her widowed mother and siblings to continue her childhood and education.

The Methodist faith meant a great deal to Margaret all throughout her life. She planned to attend Julliard School of Music in New York City, but instead chose marriage to western bandleader Smiley Whitley who kept music in her life for many years. Two girls, Tommie Jeane and Sandra Diann were born to the marriage, and they went along for the ride! Margaret formed a popular girl western band, The Texas Tomboys, in the late 40's, and they became quite well known in and around the Southwest. Her band played at the Louisiana Hayride, and was invited along with Smiley Whitley's Texans to play at the fabulous opening of the Shamrock Hotel in Houston. Over 50 famous movie stars attended the opening to add excitement to the festivities. For quite some time, the Texas Tomboys were heard along with the Texans every Saturday afternoon on the hundreds of radio stations of the Mutual Radio Network. The Tomboys and the Texans were asked to perform at the first, and many subsequent, Stock Show and Rodeos at the Joe Freeman Coliseum.

Margaret is survived by her daughter Tommie Jeane Whitley Hageman and husband Dr. Dwight C. Hageman of San Antonio, grandson Scott C. Hageman and wife Michele of San Antonio, and their daughters Millie and Madi. Margaret is also survived by her daughter Sandra Diann Whitley Brooks and her husband Joe W. Brooks of Adkins, granddaughters Donna Williams-Barker, Debbie & Bill Meadows and Penny Rankin, great-grandchildren Payton Barker, Brooke & Richard Funke, Amy Rankin, Lonnie Rankin & wife Jamie & their children, 1 great-great-grandson Cooper Funke and nephew Stephen B. Cage, II of Seguin, his wife Mary Jane & their 2 sons.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2008, at 10:00AM, in the Chapel of Morningside Manor Nursing Home, 602 Babcock, San Antonio, TX 78201(830) 731-1000. Interment will follow at 2:00PM, in Leakey-Floral Cemetery, Leakey, TX.
