Esther L. Brooks, 93, of Erie, IL, passed away Monday, August 13, 2012, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, August 16th, at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Erie, with visitation one hour preceding the service. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Erie Ambulance Service in lieu of flowers. Esther was born October 8, 1918, in Fenton Township, Illinois, to Joseph and Flora Shepherd. She married Arlyn Brooks of Erie on June 14, 1941. He preceded her in death January 14, 2011. They were lifetime Erie residents. Esther was a member of the Erie Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in his farm drainage business, doing both office work and field work from time to time. Esther is survived by her daughter Linda (Michael) Fortin of Naalehu, HI, brother-in-law Lyle (Margo) Brooks, nephews Brian (Angie) Brooks, Bruce (Julie) Brooks, Bradley (Pam) Brooks, Kyle Brooks, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews, all of Erie.
