He was born in Rome, Ga., on Feb. 3, 1916. Charles was a longtime peninsula resident and retired in 1978 from C & O Railroad after 25 years service. He had been a resident of Riverside Convalescent Center, Saluda, for the past seven years. The family would like to express a special thank you to the convalescent center staff for the excellent care given Charles.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian McGuffey Black; grandsons , Kenneth R. Parks Jr., Charles Adam Black; and great-grandson, Robert Alan 'Robbie' Harwood Jr.
He is survived by his daughters, Sharon B. Parks of Gloucester, Sue Marie Kruczek of Athens, Ala.; sons, William Charles Black, and Jerry Lee Black, of Newport News, and Donald Ed Black of Richmond; three grand children; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Peninsula Memorial Park by the Rev. Tag Kilgore.
