Debra Lee Murray , 48, of Midland, died accidentally Saturday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2005, at the Canyon Falls Park, while vacationing in the Upper Peninsula.

She was born Feb. 16, 1957, in Midland, the daughter of Leland W. Burlew and the late Alice L. (Harris) Burlew. Debra had attended schools in Midland and graduated from H. H. Dow High School in 1975. She had been employed over 25 years with Dow Corning before moving with her family to Milan, Italy for two years. Debra had been an active volunteer at Chestnut Hill Elementary School and with the parent-teacher organizations.

On Sept. 8, 1990 Debra married Andrew V. Murray in Midland. He survives her as well as her daughter, Abigail (Nicholas) Goodman of Kalamazoo; and sons, Drew Alan and Ian Nathaniel Murray , at home; her brother, Kendall (Ruth) Burlew of Midland; and sisters, Dr. Colleen (Dr. Robert Watters) Murray of Reno, Nev., and Maureen (Jay) May of Canton, Ohio; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ramon and Sylvia Murray of Dover, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St. The Rev. Jane Thickstun of the Universalist Unitarian Church will officiate.

Debra's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
