Paul was the son of Richard Harrison Aikens, Sr., (16 Feb 1880 - 4 Dec 1944) and Viola June (Hollis) Aikens Whittington (19 June 1886 - 10 Apr 1952).

Paul married Margaret Irene (Elwood) Aikens (8 July 1915 - 12 Mar 1995).

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Paul R. Aikens, 85, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at his home. Born Nov. 30, 1914, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Richard Harrison and Viola June Hollis Aikens. His wife, Margaret I. Elwood Aikens, preceded him in death. He had been employed by Shockey Plumbing; and retired from Shenandoah Gas. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a Protestant. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann Stevens of Tampa, Fla., and M. Beverlee McDonald of Tipp City, Ohio; one son, Richard H. Aikens of Haymarket, Va.; one sister, Pearl Shearer of Pasadena, Md.; two brothers, Harry W. Aikens and Herman Aikens, both of Winchester, Va.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Estella Leonard and Geraldine J. Aikens; three brothers, Alton Parker, Richard H. and James E. Aikens; and two great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Pleasant View Memory Gardens. The Rev. James L. Richard will officiate. The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.
