Mrs. Catherine Bowen, 83, who lived at 700 Walnut, died in Cherokee Wednesday afternoon, October 11, following a short illness. A resident of Cherokee County for more than 70 years. She was a long time member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was preceded in death by her husband William F. Bowen who died in 1951. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Hinkley of Palo Alto, CA, and Frances Elaine Woltman, Cherokee; two sons, Philip Bowen of Omaha and William of Des Moines: 10 grandchildren; and one brother, Edward Shea, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 13 at 9 a. m. from Immaculate Conception church. Father E. D. Thorn will be the celebrant of Requiem High Mass. Mount Calvary cemetery will be the burial place. Rosary will be recited Thursday and Friday at 8 p. m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home.

The marriage of William F. Bowen and Miss Kate Shea occurred Monday morning, September 4, 1911 at the Epiphany Cathedral, Sioux City, Rev. Father Desmond of Cherokee officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Bowen left for a trip through the southwest. The bride is the daughter of Dennis Shea of Cherokee. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Bowen of Fort Dodge and has many friends here. Mr. and Mrs. Bowen will make their future home in Cherokee.

The 1925 Iowa census shows William (50) and Catherine (43) living in Cherokee with their four children Catherine (12), Philip (10) William (5) and Frances (2). William is a railroad conductor. Alice, the six-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Bowen, passed away Monday afternoon, December 16, 1918 at the family home on Walnut street as the result of diphtheria.

Their children are: Catherine, Mrs. David Hinkley (1912-1992), Alice (1913-1918), Philip (1914-2005), William (1919-1997) and Frances, Mrs. Wayne Woltman (1922-1990).
