Obituary: Retired City Fire Captain Franklin C. Bowers, 71, of 2233 Lincoln Highway East died at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the General Hospital. He had been ill two weeks. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles and Clara Gertler Bowers and resided most of his life in this area. He retired from the city fire department in 1953 after 25 years of service. Bowers was a member of the Fraternal Order of Fireman and the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 299. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Kimbro Bowers, at home; six sons, Charles F., Willow Street; Edward W., Lititz R3; and Robert J., Gerald H., Richard J., and Ronald J., all of Lancaster; a daughter, Patricia, wife of George Dimitris, Conestoga; 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
