Edgar Wellington Brooks was the son of Calvin Brooks and his first wife Eliza (maiden name unknown), and full blood brother to Martha Amelia Brooks Norton. Both were born in Sackets Harbor, Jefferson County, NY. He was half brother of Wealthy, Flora, Hattie, Edwin, & Fannie. Edgar married Martha A Meacham in 1867 and was father to two daughters, Florence & Ethel. After moving to Ellicottville at a young age, Edgar lived in Ellicottville the rest of his life.

Ellicottville's Oldest Business Man Passes Away at Buffalo. Funeral Held Here Monday.

The death of Mr. E.W. Brooks, the oldest business man of Ellicottville, occurred in Buffalo la«t Friday [27 Oct 1922] where he was taken for treatment. Mr. Brooks had not been in the best of health for some weeks preceding his death. There is not a man, woman or child in this vicinity who will not miss him and mourn his passing. Deceased had been in active and continual business here, where he kept a general store for over sixty years. The funeral was held in Buffalo, Sunday, and the remains were brought here Monday morning over the B. R. P. and interment was in Sunset Hill cemetery. Short services were held at the grave. A large number of fellow business associates and friends were present to pay their last respects. -- The Post, Ellicottville, Cattaraugus County, NY, Wednesday, November 1, 1922.
