Leopoldo "Leo" Armijo was called home by the Good Lord on December 2, 2011, in Las Cruces, NM, surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 18, 1934, to the late Rosendo and Remedios Armijo in Las Palomas, NM. He grew up working on the family farm in Las Palomas and graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1953. He was an excellent athlete who played all sports, but particularly excelled in basketball, where he was named All District his senior year. He worked several jobs to put himself through school and graduated from New Mexico State University in 1957, with a BS Degree in Business Administration. After college, he worked for the Employment Security Commission and later became the sales manager for Dale Bellamah Homes in Las Cruces. In June, 1961, he joined the FBI as a Special Agent. His assignments with the FBI included Miami, San Antonio, Laredo, Albuquerque and finally Las Cruces, where he retired in 1986, as Senior Resident Agent. He had an exemplary career filled with accomplishments, successes, awards and lots of great stories. More importantly, he was an exceptional person - the best husband, dad, granddad, brother, son, uncle, friend, anyone could ask for. He earned the respect and admiration of everyone he met and he never forgot the humble beginnings he came from. He was always willing to help anyone in need and those who knew him will remember his kindness, generosity, integrity and never-ending sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Orfita (Chavez) Armijo, his parents Rosendo and Remedios Armijo, and brothers Elias and Luciano Armijo. He is survived by his children, Teresa Quitmeyer (husband Bill), Ernie Armijo (wife Pia), and Anthony Armijo; his grandchildren Marcella and Julian; his brother Eutimio Armijo (wife Cecilia); sister Lita Perez; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

A Prayer Vigil was held at 6:00 PM (December 6) at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, led by Deacon Adam Sanchez. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at 10:00 AM, with Reverend Marcos O. Rena officiating. Rite of Committal followed in the Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Serving as Casket Bearers were Julian Armijo, Bill Quitmeyer, Richard Chavez, Gene Molina, Ed Sauer and Victor Armijo.
