A Second Member of the Family
to Die Within Year From Same Malady

Burial Here Private

Mrs. Artelle Cox Bowman, wife of William G. Bowman and for years a resident of Alton, died about midnight last night at her home in Chicago, 3949 Lake Park Ave., after a long illness with cancer. Her death had been expected at any day for weeks. Mrs. Bowman had not taken any nourishment whatsoever for four weeks and very little for several weeks prior to that time. She had been attended in her last weeks by her sister, Mrs. Harold G. Powell, of Alton. She was the second of her family to die from cancer within a year, the other member being Mrs. W.F. Sinks of Yuma, Az.

The body will be brought to Alton for burial and the funeral will be from the Powell home, 1610 Langdon Street probably tomorrow afternoon and will be private. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Bowman was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Cox and was born at Virden, Ill. She was sixteen years of age when she came to Alton with her parents and she was married here. Her husband conducted a drug store at Broadway and Henry Streets and later at Broadway and Market. At present he is owner of a drug store in Chicago.

Twenty-two years ago the Bowman's went to Chicago to make their home and had lived there ever since. Mrs. Bowman is survived by three brothers. Frank Cox of Los Angeles, Clark Cox of Houston, Tex. And Eugene Cox of Chicago; also by two sisters, Mrs. W.T. Cathcart of Fayetteville, Tenn. and Mrs. Harold G. Powell of Alton. She belonged to a family that had a high order of artistic talent and Mrs. Bowman shared with the other members of the family in the art talent that was common to them. She was a charming, vivacious woman, a good conversationalist and she had a large number of good friends in Alton.

The body will arrive tomorrow morning, accompanied by some of the members of the family and will be taken to the Powell home.
