Margaree Ardelle Miller Adams, 101, of 219 Potomac Heights in Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at her home.

She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated her life's work to community service and caring for others.

Born Thursday, Aug. 11, 1904, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Laura Lum Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Adams, in 1999; and one brother, Elmer Miller.

She graduated from Washington County High School in 1923. She was a member of First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school and was one of the first women elders. She was a member of Christian Women's Fellowship of First Christian Church and was president of the Capital Area CWF for two years. She was a member of the Lioness Club of Hagerstown, and Queen Esther Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered for the Hagerstown Girls' Club and the American Red Cross for more than 50 years.

Margaree is survived by two daughters, Alice Margaree A. Wright of Belle Mead, N.J., and Carolyn A. Ridenour of Gaithersburg, Md.; one son, Philip K. Adams of Hagerstown; one granddaughter, Wendy Margaree Ridenour of Missoula, Mont.; three grandsons, David P. Wright of Georgetown, Maine, Paul Ridenour of Salem, Va., and Brian P. Adams of Baltimore; and six great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Margaree, Joshua, Caleb, Samuel and Matthew Wright, all of Georgetown.

Services will be Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at 1 p.m. at First Christian Church. The Rev. David Shreeves and the Rev. Robert Regenold will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., Hagerstown, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at First Christian Church.
