Franklin E. Jackson, 93, of Elizabethtown, died Monday, April 18, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

Born in Ohio County, he served in World War II and then joined the Foreign Service in 1946. During his career he served in 12 posts in eastern and western Europe, North Africa, Central America and the Far East. In 1965 he was awarded the Department of State Superior Honor Award for service to colleagues' embassies in Poland and the Soviet Union. After a 37-year career with the Department of the State (Diplomatic Corps) he retired to Elizabethtown. Shortly after his first retirement he was hired as the executive officer of the Hardin County Board of Realtors and was instrumental in bringing the Multiple Listing Service to the area. He was a member of Kosair Shrine of Louisville, Riasok Shrine Club of Elizabethtown and Hardin County Post No. 113 of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzora and Lois Jackson; and a brother, Tex Jackson.
