Funeral services for James J Hill Sr, 86, will be held at 1:30 Thursday afternoon at the Thurman Chapel with the Rev. Medford Speaker officiating. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens.
Friends may call at the Thurman Funeral Home from 7 to 8 o'clock Wednesday evening.
Mr. Hill died at 7:25 Monday morning, Aug 5, 1974, at the Ray county memorial hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 26 1887, in Christian County, Mo, one of eight children of Russell and Annie (Dunbar) Hill. He had lived most of his life in Ray county and was a member of the First Baptist church. He was a retired miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
On April 12, 1913 he was married to Hazel Leasure of Plattsburg, who survives at the home, 117 West Royle street.
He is also survived by a son, James J. Hill, jr of Dallas, Tex; one daughter, Mrs Evelyn Barker of Richmond, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Five brothers and two sisters died previously.
His son James J Hill Jr is my father and I never knew my grandfather but if he was anything like my dad then he was a great, caring, hard working man. I wish I had knew him.
