Everett Cumpton, 89, Butler, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at the Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. Services were held Oct. 8 at the Underwood-Steinbeck Funeral Home in Butler with Rev. Joe Wix officiating, Internment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler with military services by American Legion Post no. 46. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
Mr. Cumpton was born Jan. 25, 1908 in Bates County, Mo. to William E. and Rosa Diehl Cumpton. PFC Everett O. Cumpton married Vera Lee (McGuire) Lockridge June 17, 1943 Harrisonville, Cass, MO, but they later divorced. He married Ruth Duncan on August 22, 1952. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a lineman for the United Telephone Company, retiring after many years of service. He was a member of the American Legion, James P. Arnold Post no 46 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and his two brothers, George Cumpton and John Cumpton.
He leaves two daughters, Jeanette Tochelli, Raymore Mo., and Joyce Davis, Winter Haven, Fla., three brothers, Marvin Cumpton, Overland Park, Kan; Arthur Cumpton and wife Clara Mae, and Quentin Cumpton and wife Blanche, of Butler, two sisters Gladys Linard, Butler and Wilma Kollman, Olathe, Kan., a sister-in-law Ella Cumpton, Butler; a granddaughter, Joangela Tochelli, Raymore, Mo; and several nieces and nephews.
