Matthew Hilton Friederich, 54, of Butler, Mo., passed away peacefully at his parents’ home in Butler surrounded by family and several life-long friends after a two-year struggle with cancer. Matt was born on June 22, 1961 in Chanute, Kansas and graduated from Butler High School in 1980. He married in 1983 and had one son; Tyler Hilton Friederich of Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Matt worked as a cell tower engineer for the past 15 years and made his home on a 10-acre stretch of farmland five miles northwest of Butler. He built his cabin with the help of his best friends Russell Foote and Dusty Warren of Butler, his son Tyler and stepson Brent Tennison. When he was not traveling with his job, his passion was to spend time at his “farm” as he called it, clearing and improving areas around his cabin with the goal of making it the “meeting” place for all family get-togethers. He loved the solitude of his home as well as inviting friends out for a bonfire and weenie roast. He was a kind and generous man who never knew a stranger and always had a grin on his face and laughter in his eyes. His passing left an emptiness in our hearts that can never be filled, he will be missed by so many.

Friederich is survived by his son, Tyler Friederich, his stepson Brent Tennison of Wyandotte, Mo., stepdaughter Dani Richardson of Pleasant Hill, Mo., mother Patricia Friederich and grandmother Virginia Hilton of Butler, brother Steven Friederich and wife Bonnie of O’Fallon, Mo., brother Jeff Friederich and wife Barbara of Raytown, Mo., sister Alecia Lawhorn and husband Andre’ of Mandeville, La., sister Anna Renae Friederich-Maggard and Dave Maggard of Lansing, Kan., and step grandchildren Logan, Madalynne, Chevy, Keidyn, Mason, and Dawson, nieces and nephews Cory Coates, Richard Friederich, James Friederich, Tricia Friederich-Cook, and Ely and Aubrey Maggard.

He was preceded in death by his father Dale Q. Friederich of Butler.
