PEORIA -- John L. Alexander, 72, of 2419 W. Garden died at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Bel-Wood Nursing Home. Born Dec. 7, 1926, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to John and Leona Roe Alexander, he married Betty Scott in 1954 in Rolla, Mo. She died in 1970 in Peoria. Also preceding him in death were one daughter, Kathleen, three sisters and one half brother. Surviving are one daughter, Christine Stapleton of Pekin; six brothers, James of Sarasota, Fla., Stewart of Springfield, Daniel, Robert and Michael, all of Washington, and Floyd of Creve Coeur; one sister, Dorothy Mock of Bloomington; and five grandchildren.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 814. He worked for the Peoria Park District for a number of years, retiring in 1992. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Swan Lake Memory Gardens, where visitation will be 30 minutes before services at Swan Lake Memory Gardens Chapel.
