George E. Barr, 72, of East Liberty, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, with his wife and children by his side at his home, following an extended illness.

He was born in Holcomb, W.Va., on Sept. 10, 1939, to the late Amos and Lucy Music Barr Jr.

On Dec. 7, 1962, he married the former Nancy Moore at the East Liberty United Methodist Church and she survives, along with his children, Craig (Karri) Barr of Cairo and Lisa (RasD) Barr Ahnutae of Columbus; five grandchildren, Jarrett, Evan, Mitchell, Georgie and Kaylena; his sister, Phyllis (Larry) Lowry of Urbana; sister-in-law, Connie (Bob) Huffman of Flagstaff, Ariz.; brother-in-law, James (Berty) Moore of East Liberty; several nieces and nephews and their families; many friends and neighbors; and his church family.

He retired in 2004 after 24 years with Honda of America Mfg., where he was a team leader in the stamping department. He formerly worked at Harding Machine and Urbana Tool & Die.

George attended St. Paris High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from Nov. 11, 1956, to Oct. 9, 1959.

He was a member of the East Liberty United Methodist Church and was a member and former master of the East Liberty Masonic Lodge 247.

An avid bowler, George enjoyed antiquing with his wife, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, and fishing at Island Lake and Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada, with his son and other family members.

He enjoyed Elvis Presley and lighthouse collectibles, and treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

The Rev. Max Jackson officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, West Mansfield, where visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday is concluded by a Masonic memorial service. Burial with military honors by the Logan County Honor Guard is in East Liberty Cemetery.
