MSGT HAROLD CLARENCE COOK

Harold was born on August 8, 1930, to John and Alice Cook, West Palm Beach Florida. Little is known about his early years but he is believed to have grown up in West Palm Beach, where he enlisted in the Air Force and became a Career Military Man. At the time of his death, his family resided on Alhambra Drive in Fort Myers. He left behind his wife, Betty, two daughters, Alice and Billie and a son, Daniel.

His tour of duty in Vietnam began on December 21, 1966, with 12TH AIR COMMANDO SQDN, 315TH AIR COMMANDO WING, 7TH FF. On September 4, 1967, he gave his life for our Country, shot down in Lam Dong Province, South Vietnam, while trying to rescue eight fellow soldiers surrounded by enemy fire.

He was promoted posthumously and received a Distinguished Flying Cross, two purple hearts, Air Force Good Conduct, Army Good Conduct, National Defense with Star, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign Medals, Air Force Longevity, Air Force NCO Military Education Graduate, Small Arms Expert, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
