|Birth: ||Mar. 25, 1893|

Willie Oliver Schwend's father was George Martine Schwend, born in February 1864, Alabama. Both of his parents were born in Germany. Willie's mother was Estella (Stella) Fowler born in December 1870 in Georgia. Estella's parents were W. L. Fowler and Elmira Dickerit, both born in Georgia. George Schwend and Estella Fowler were married in 1886. NOTE: Willie's middle name "Oliver" is confirmed by the Farrar Family Bible.
The 1900 US Census of Ward 6, Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of 36 Y/O George Martine Schwend, a railroad engineer, and his 29 Y/O wife, Estella (Stella) Fowler. Also living in the household were their children: 11 Y/O Ada E. Schwend, b. Sep 1888; 9 Y/O Ida M. Schwend, b. January 1891; 7 Y/O Willie Oliver Schwend, b. March 1893: 1 Y/O Mary T. Schwend, b. September 1898. NOTE: George "Marteen" Schwend was a successful inventor with four US Patents to his name. All were railroad related and dated between 1902 and 1920 in Birmingham, AL.
A conundrum has arisen concerning the relationship between George Martine Schwend and his first wife, Estella (Fowler) Schwend. It appears that enumeration errors may have camouflaged the fact they got a divorce prior to 1910. The 27 Apr 1910 US Census of Ward 3, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of 37 Y/O "Widowed(?)" Estella Schwend. Also residing in the household were her children: 21 Y/O Ade E. Schwend, a stenographer in a railroad office; 19 Y/O Ida M. Schwend, a stenographer in a real estate office; 17 Y/O Willie O. Schwend, a saleslady at a department store, and 12 Y/O Mary T. Schwend. NOTE: The 15 Apr 1910 US Census of Ward 1, Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of widowed 75 Y/O Emma Schwend, born in Germany. Also living in her household was her "single" son 46 Y/O George Schwend, a railroad engineer. To further confuse this situation, the 1910 Birmingham City Directory recorded Estella Schwend as the widow of George Schwend and also separately recorded George Schwend as an engineer for Frisco Lines Railroad. Estella Schwend married secondly William J. Griffin on 30 Sep 1916 at Jefferson, Co., AL. and died on 12 Jul 1955 at Jefferson Co., AL. George M. Schwend also remarried about 1911 in Birmingham to Pearl McCain (b. 1888 Alabama, d. 1970 Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL)
20 Y/O Willie Oliver Schwend married Sybley John Farrar on 03 Mar 1914 at Jefferson Co., AL.
The 1920 US Census of Birmingham, AL enumerated the household of 69 Y/O retired Charles Thomas Farrar. Inexplicably, his 63 Y/O wife, Rosalind Virginia (Dawn) Farrar, is not enumerated in the household. Their children living in the household were: 27 Y/O Sybley John Farrar, a railroad pipefitter; 25 Y/O Willie (Schwend) Farrar, wife of Sybley John Farrar; 5 Y/O Elizabeth Estella Farrar, daughter of Sybley and Willie Farrar; 30 Y/O Dawn Franklin Farrar, a printer, and 21 Y/O Edward Larston Farrar.
The 1930 US Census of Birmingham, AL enumerated the household of 79 Y/O retired Charles Thomas Farrar and his 72 Y/O wife, Rosalind Virginia (Dawn) Farrar. Also living in the household were a son, 40 Y/O Dawn Franklin Farrar, an automobile salesman; another son 37 Y/O Sybley John Farrar, a pipefitter for a Steel and Iron Company; Sybley's 36 Y/O wife, Willie (Schwend) Farrar and their two children; 15 Y/O Elizabeth Estella Farrar and 8 Y/O Virginia Farrar.
The 1940 US Census of Birmingham, AL enumerated the household of 47 Y/O Sybley John Farrar, a pipefitter in a steel plant, and his 47 Y/O wife, Willie (Schwend) Farrar. Also living in the household was their single 18 Y/O daughter, Cathryn Virginia Farrar. In addition their 25 Y/O married daughter, Elizabeth Estella (Farrar) McGehee, a file clerk at a private photography studio and her 27 Y/O husband, Robert W. McGehee, a photographer/developer in a private photography studio, were also residents in the household.
