George Dyer was the grandson of Lt George Dyer & Rachel Dalton of the Leatherwood Section of Henry County, VA, and the son of James Dyer & Sarah Ann Fortune. Descendants of Lt George Dyer who fought in the Continental Line of the American Revolution are eligible for membership in Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution. Descendants of Sarah Ann Fortune Dyer are eligible for membership in The National Society of the Washington Family Descendants. George Dyer was the 2nd cousin 6 times removed to First President George Washington.

NOTE: There are some references to this George Dyer as being George Washington Dyer. As far as can be determined, no formal record has been found with a middle name. In addition, he signed his name George Dyer. He is believed to have been the namesake of his grandfather Lt George Dyer.
