Jerry C. Brooks, 71, of Haines City passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sunday September 18, 2016.

Born in Ft. Myers to parents Cecil and Jeanette, Jerry moved to Polk County at a young age, attending Winter Haven High School, eventually settling in Haines City, which was forever home. Jerry is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Sandra Price Brooks of Haines City, son Steven and daughter-in-law Jane Brooks and grandson Matthew of Gainesville, FL. He is also survived by his brother, James Brooks.

Following High School graduation, Jerry became a member of the Florida National Guard. He later enrolled in the University of South Florida, obtaining a degree in political science. Jerry began his career of 30 years as a professional carpet installer. In his retirement he continued to enjoy refurbishing homes, which involved more carpet installation.

Jerry was an avid music lover, able to find depth and meaning in songs from all times. However, there was no comparison to the King, Elvis. Jerry’s passion of all things Elvis included collections of all forms of media, memorabilia, t-shirts, and the occasional peanut butter and banana sandwich.

Although Jerry frequently traveled to Memphis to visit Graceland, he truly loved traveling the globe with his wife Sandra. Together they visited Japan, England, Germany, and his favorite by far, Paris, France.

Jerry’s other passion included sports, particularly watching football. Fridays were spent watching Haines City High school games, long before and long after Steven was there marching in the band. Saturdays were spent cheering for the Florida Gators. Sundays were for watching good professional games, and his long-running love hate relationship with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jerry Brooks will be remembered as a kind man with snappy wit reflecting deep insight. His passion for his family and friends was evident as he was always there to help and support. His work with the Kiwanis Club and Haines City Jay Cees helped to spread his warmth to others in the community. He was loved and will be missed.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday September 22, 2016 at the funeral home with burial following at Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donation be made to Good Shepard Hospice in Jerry C. Brooks’ name.
