Loa Dillon, 88, of Lovell passed away on Sunday, December 11th at New Horizon's Care Center in Lovell. Loa Shumway Dillon was born to Willie Johnson Shumway and Ida Lucy Millett at their ranch south of Lovell in the area known at Pumpkin Center on September 27, 1923. She grew up on the family farm riding her horse in the cedars with her cousins Smith and Evelyn. They would bake potatoes in a camp fire and explore the world around them.

Loa attended the Lovell School's graduating with top honors in journalism. She married the past that had sat behind her through grade school Bill Dillon. He had declared to his mother in second grade he was going to marry Loa Shumway and he did on December 16, 1941. They were married in the Idaho Falls temple on October 21, 1954.

With Bill working out of town Loa raised her family of eight with a firm but loving hand. Loa instilled the love of the outdoors in her family whether pulling weeds in the garden or camping on the Big Horns. She loved to hike, fish, and cook great meals for anyone who dropped into camp. Loa was a very talented seamstress, cook, and quilter. When your class at school was voting who would be room mother for the year the class always voted for Loa because of her beautiful decorated cookies.

Through the years she worked as a clerk, secretary, and cake decorator for the Lovell Bakery. Her favorite job was working in the school lunch room and being the grandma for the Head Start.

Loa was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many church callings and touched the lives of many people with her love of teaching and her testimony.

Her sense of humor and innate kindness brought her through the last painful and debilitating years of her life, earning her new friends and the love and respect of all of those she associated with.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, her sister Elma Rodgers, sister Phyllis Haynes, and grandson Stuart Currie.

She is survived by her brother Bill Shumway, daughter Billie Jean, daughter Peg (Mike) Snell, daughter Pam (Jim) Currie, daughter Jane (John) Schneider, son Scott (Sharon), son Tom, daughter Sue (Shane) McKinny, and daughter Toni (Tom) Bassett.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lovell LDS Chapel. Viewing/Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Haskell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lovell Cemetery.
