Ted Adolphsen died on August 3, 2010 after a full and rewarding life, filled with love, laughter and music. He was born in Chehalis on March 19th, 1921 to Jens J. Aldolphsen and Goldie Harms Adolphsen, the second of their seven children. After graduating from Chehalis High School, Ted attended Bakersfield Junior College and following graduation from there, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving until the completion of World War II. Following the war, Ted attended the University of Washington where he played football and obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering. For the next forty years, Ted was employed in the production, fabrication, and sales of construction products and structural steel -primarily in the State of Montana until his retirement in 1992.
Ted was first married in June of 1942, to Bessie Herron of Chehalis, his high school sweetheart ,their marriage lasted for more than fifty-one years until her death in 1993. Ted and Bessie had two children Mary Alice and Kirk. Later, Ted was married to Vivian Roewe of Chehalis on January 1, 1996 and became part of her large and extended family. After Vivian's death in March 2003 Ted continued on as the adopted grandfather to her clan up until his death.
Ted was extremely active in every community in which he lived: singing in church choirs for more than thirty years, being a very active member of the Kiwanis for more than forty years, and serving as a leader in the youth activities of his children. Upon his return to Chehalis in 1996, he became an active volunteer with the Greater Chehalis Food Bank, the Kiwanis Club, the Boy Scouts, and St. Joseph Parish. His favorite activities were fishing, sailing, playing harmonica, and especially dancing. Ted had a very good life and was a man of great charm, talent and humor. He was extremely dedicated to his family and friends.
Ted is survived by his daughter Mary Alice Jaksha of Billings, MT, and his two grandchildren Katie Bess, and Willie. He is also survived by his brothers Jens Adolphsen of Sacramento, Fred Adolphsen of Boise, Carl Adolphsen of Centralia and their sister Goldie Silva of Carmichael, CA. His son Kirk, brother Herman, and sister Helen predeceased him. Ted is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, by the members of the Roewe families of whom he will always be a part, and by his good and loyal friend and dancing partner, Mary Primm.
Following cremation, Ted's remains will be interred with his first wife, Bessie, in Billings Montana.
