Visiting hours will be observed today from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at David Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Thursday at 8 a.m. until the time of service.
A native of St. Martin Parish and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Bourque died at 8:29 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Dauterive Hospital.
Mr. Bourque was employed with International Salt/AKZO as a Quality Control Supervisor for 42 years before retiring.
He was a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was the founder and organizer of Scout Master of Troop 15 of Avery Island for 12 years, and received the St. George Award and the Scoutmaster Key. All four of his sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout of Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the American Legion and was on the St. Marcellus Parish Council. After retirement he earned a degree in Carpentry from the Teche Area Vocational Technical College and was on the carpentry advisory board. He loved nature and was the reference source for 4-H members at Avery Island School. He was a Ham Radio Operator.
He is survived by his wife, LaVerne Stein Bourque of New Iberia; two daughters, Pauline B. DuBois and husband Joey of Bennetsville, S.C. and Bonnie B. Battaglia and husband Daryl of Chalmette; four sons, Michael Bourque of Bologna, Italy, Paul N. Bourque Jr. and wife Jo Ellen of New Iberia, Andy Bourque and wife Sandra of Broussard and James Bourque of Catahoula; a brother, Francis Bourque of Marrero; a sister, Mary Mae Ladig of Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mr. Bourque was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Israel and Marie Angelina Berthelot Bourque; a brother and sister-in-law who served as foster parents, Edward J. and Anna Drago Bourque; a sister, Mrs. Phillip (Mathilde) Fitch and a infant sister, Martha Bourque.
Pallbearers will include Scott DuBois, Daryl Battaglia Jr., Spec. Dwayne Paul Bourque, Danny Bourque, Jamie Bourque and Greg Border.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations may be made in Mr. Bourque's name to The Milk Fund care of The Daily Iberian.
