Jens Christian Jensen was born September 6, 1883 in Mygdal, Denmark. He was the second of five children. In 1900, he joined the Danish Army. He was stationed at Christiana, near Copenhagen & did guard duty at Kronerg Castle at Elsinor. Later, he filed a request to emigrate under the Homestead Act. On January 10, 1906, he set sail from LIverpool, England, aboard the R.M.S. Majestic & arrived on Ellis Island on January 18, 1908. The Surgeon of the ship certified that he was in good health, not supported by charity & he was not an anarchist. He worked in Ft. Collins until 1909 when he & his brother in-law set out in a wagon for Western Nebraska. They settled on some land in the Sheep Creek area not far from the Wyoming & Nebraska state line & they worked as partners. Later, he aquired his own homestead. He met Ethel at a barn dance which were common in the Morrill area whenever a barn was just built. She called him "Jim" & was known by that name from then on. On November 6, 1915, they wed at the Presbyterian Chruch in Morrill by the Rev. George C. Porter. The ceremony was witnessed by the bride's sister, Maud & her husband Wm. Glenn Taylor. They honeymooned in Denver, CO. On June 11, 1920 he was granted citizenship. They raised 5 children. He is remembered as a devoted family man & a sincere & charitable community worker, always concerned with the welfare & comfort of others.
