Bernard Ray Akers

Bernard Ray "Koochie" Akers, age 73, of Beckley, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 4, 2011, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a long illness.

Born on September 23, 1937, in Corinne, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Ivan Dillard Akers and Daisy Mae Adams Akers.

Mr. Akers was a retired welder, and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in 1955. He had made his home in Beckley most of his life. Mr. Akers was an avid hunter and fisherman, who was a loving and supporting husband, father, and brother. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Mr. Akers leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Ruby Darlington Akers, his daughter Jennifer Runyon and her husband Rick of Beaver, West Virginia; a granddaughter, Heather Rhodes, and his precious great-granddaughter Hallie of Beaver, West Virginia.

He is also survived by a brother, Kenneth Akers and his wife Patricia of Bradley, 2 sisters, Brenda Potter and her husband Roy of Beckley, and Sandy Canaday and her husband Ron of Crab Orchard. Numerous nieces and nephews are also among his survivors.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, West Virginia, on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ron Browning officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley, West Virginia. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Arrangements are by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, 1901 South Kanawha Street, Beckley, West Virginia.
