EAST WATERBORO -- Clinton W. Abbott, 78, longtime resident and business owner from East Waterboro, died Feb. 27, 2009, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough surrounded by family, following a brief illness. He was born at home in Springvale on Sept. 23, 1930, the son of Forrest M. Abbott Sr. and Josephine L. (Hersom) Abbott, and graduated from Waterboro High School.

As a young man, Clint was an avid driver of just about any type of vehicle, both big and fast. He enjoyed racing at Beech Ridge Speedway. Clint drove tractor trailer truck for Paul Adams Trucking, owned and operated Clint's Marine, later becoming self-employed driving long haul trips for over 20 years.

On June 25, 1949, Clint married Marjorie Libby and together they raised their family in East Waterboro. Not only was Marjorie his wife, she was his partner in their business Clint's Marine comprising of a garage, gas station and later, boats and marine equipment sales throughout the life of the business. It was a marriage and partnership that spanned almost 60 years.

Clint loved hunting, baseball, boating and NASCAR. He and his wife traveled extensively both domestically and internationally over the course of their lifetime to Hawaii, Rome, Denmark, South America and so many more places, later sharing photo memories with their grandchildren, who fondly referred to him as 'Bumpa.'

He is survived by his wife Marjorie of East Waterboro; two daughters, Shirley Hutchins and husband Douglass of Lyman, Cheryl Edgerly and husband Donald of Limerick; five grandchildren, Melissa Giles and husband Patrick and their children, Quinn Patrick and Rowan Cooper of Old Orchard Beach; Robert Edgerly of New York; Heath Edgerly and his son, Caleb Heath of Limerick; and Daniel and Cody Abbott of Limerick.
