David Traynor Hanley was born January 6th 1935 in Syracuse, New York and died May 11th 2012 at his home in Provo due to numerous health problems. He was surrounded by many loved ones that he left behind. David is the best friend to his loving wife Terrie Ann Welch Hanley, with whom he shared 42 wonderful years. David is also lovingly known as Dad to his four children, Celeste Lund, Denise Scheib, Tracy Furness, and David Hanley, and Grandpa to his 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
At a very young age David set his ambitious sights in the sky. David enlisted in the Air Force at age 17, becoming a bombardier on the B-47 and ultimately a pilot. He trained on the T-34, T-28, and T-33 aircraft, flew the F-86 and the B-52, and retired a captain.
In July of 1965 David left the Air Force and joined American Airlines as a pilot where he flew for 30 years, most of that time as a captain. Captain Hanley flew the DC-6, DC-7, 707, 727, 747, and DC-10, and was an MD-80 instructor.
David and Terrie both joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as adults. He served in the LA temple, and they served together in the Provo temple and as full-time missionaries at the Provo Family History Training Center.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2012 at the Oak Hills 5th Ward Chapel, 1960 North 1500 East, Provo, UT 84604. Interment, Provo City Cemetery.
