LARGE FUNERAL FOR DICK AND LOUISA ALTENA, KILLED IN TRAIN ACCIDENT
5000 people were said to have been present at the funeral of Dick and Louisa Altena, youthful accident victims, who lost their lives last Wednesday when their car was struck by a Great Northern train. Services were held Saturday at the First Reformed church, as the only church with sufficient seating capacity for so large a crowd. The family are members of the Second Christ. Ref. church, whose pastor Rev. Ypma was in charge of the services, assisted by Rev. Monsma of Orange City and Rev. Lubbers.
Dick and Louisa Altena were returning home from singing school at their church Tuesday evening when their car was struck by the Great Northern passenger, southbound, and both young people were instantly killed.
Dick, 21 years, was the youngest son and Louisa, 17 years, was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Altena.
They are survived by their parents, four brothers and four sisters, namely, Gerrit Altena of Sibley; Mrs. Gt. In't Velt of Maurice; Henry Altena of Ireton; Mrs. Albert In't Velt, Mrs. Arthur Klein, both of Sioux Center; Sam and Jacob Altena, both of Maurice, and Miss Fannie living at home. Dick and Louisa were also living at home, but the young lady had spent the day at the home of one of her brothers. Both were splendid young people and the family have the deepest sympathy of the whole community.
