Thomas A. "Sonny" Adams Jr., age 72, of Erie, MI passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at the Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, FL surrounded by his loving family.

Sonny was born on September 1, 1936, in Florence, AL to Thomas Adrian and Julia (Killen - Crowder) Adams Sr.

A Veteran of the US Air Force, he began his extensive working career in Detroit, MI where he owned several full-service Gas Stations and Bar & Grills. He also was the owner of A & D Auto Parts in Detroit, and King Road Auto Parts in Marine City, MI.

Sonny was a Race Car Driver in the early 60's, and owner, operator and promoter of Mount Clemens Race Track in the early 70's. He was owner, operator and promoter of Toledo Speedway from 1978-1999, and especially proud of initiating both the "Toledo Speedway Jams" Concert Series and the "ICEMAN" Racing Series, which brought big name drivers to the area. His passion for racing continues through his son, Tommy Adams III - "118 Jr." and grandson, Landon Schuster - "18". A devoted family man, Sonny enjoyed fishing and tending his immaculate lawn.

Sonny's survivors include his daughters, Tammy (Mark) Schuster and Teri Adams, of Toledo; sons, Thomas Adrian (Kimberly) Adams III and Joshua Adrian Adams, of Erie, MI; sisters, Maro and Karline; brothers, Robert Crowder, Wayne Adams, and Larry Adams; grandchildren, Rachel, Larry, Landon, Travis, Tyler, Shawn, Alysha, Craig, and Cody; 5 great-grand-daughters; companion, Ann DeMarce and faithful canine companions, "Harley" and "LeLe".

His parents and his stepfather, Robert Crowder, preceded him in death.

Family and friends may visit on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. in the Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114-128 East Alexis Rd. Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Service in Crossroads Community Church at 11 a.m. Interment will take place in Richardson Chapel Cemetery in Lauderdale County, AL.

Sonny's family would like to thank Dr. Saxour and the ICU staff at Halifax Health Medical Center's Bill France Tower for their compassionate care.

Memorial donations may be given to the Toledo Humane Society or to Crossroads Community Church in Ottawa Lake, MI.
