After he married Laura Jane Johnson, they moved to Savannah and began a family. They had 9 children together. Charlie was a city policeman and walked the beat, or rode a horse.
In later years he was a watchman at Union Bag (Camp), and it was there he died of a heart attack in 1952. Charlie was a farmboy and knew how to raise vegetables to help keep his family fed. He would plow the vacant lot across the street from his home on 34th Street, and plant vegetables. They also had chickens for fresh eggs.
Charlie and Laura divorced after 30 years of marriage and he married Pearl Patterson. Charlie died before I had a chance to know him. My mother said he was a wonderful father and was always close to him. She and her siblings always said he was a good father and worked hard to care for his family.
He was my Grandfather.
