Norwich, Vermont – Wanita L. Armstrong, 91, died Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Meriden, NH where she had been most recently residing. She was born July 20, 1925 in Hartford, Vermont the daughter of Dana E. and Hazel (Severance) Leavitt.

Wanita attended school in Quechee and graduated from Hartford High School in 1942. Later that year she married Charles Armstrong and they moved to Norwich, VT where they raised their family. In her younger years Wanita worked at the Hartford Woolen Mill and later at the Dartmouth National Bank as a clerk. She worked for many years as an associate clerk at the Dartmouth Book Store in Hanover, NH and then in her later years before her retirement as a sales clerk at JC Penny in West Lebanon, NH.

She was an active member and past president of the Hartford Emblem Club, she was also a member of the Lyman Pell Legion Auxiliary. Wanita enjoyed sewing and working in her flower gardens. She also enjoyed spending time at the ocean. Most of all she loved spending time with her beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren

She was predeceased by a brother, Elsworth Leavitt and a sister, Avis Smith. Wanita is survived by two daughters, Patricia C. Greene and her husband Lyle of Norwich, VT, April “Susan” Yacavone and her husband John of Meriden, NH, a son, Robert C. Armstrong and his wife, Betty of Wilder, VT, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and two great, great, grandchildren, two sisters, Enid Atchinson of South Paris, ME, Lucille Crowe of Concord, NH as well as many nieces and nephews.
