See Mary Jane Meekins Reilly.

John Bean has moved his saloon to the corner of Sixth and Laurel streets, and has added a pool table to the establishment. (Brainerd Dispatch, 14 November 1884, p. 3, c. 2)

On Monday night a "free for all" fight occurred on the side walk in front of Johnny Bean's [sic] [Beane's] saloon, the principals in which were Jas. McNaughton, Chas. Baker, Iver Olson, Ole Lewis and a man by the name of Henderson. The two former pounded up the Swedes in a frightful shape and were arrested and brought up before the municipal court Tuesday. McNaughton and Baker were fined $10 each and costs and Baker paid his fine, while McNaughton in default of ready cash was consigned to the cooler for twenty days, but while being taken to the jail he jumped into an alley and managed to escape from the officer. They have both left town. (Brainerd Dispatch, 03 April 1885, p. 3, c. 3)

                  A Sudden Death.
John Beane, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Beane, died at his home in this city on Tuesday evening July 30, 1889, of congestion of the heart. He was ill but a short time before his death, and had been confined to the house but a day or two. He has lived in Brainerd since his birth and nearly everybody knew "Johnny" and his friends are numerous. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from the Episcopal church, Rev. G. H. Davis officiating. The fire department, of which body the deceased was a member, turned out headed by the Third Regiment band, and followed the remains of their dead brother to his last resting place. He leaves a wife and two small children to mourn his loss. (Brainerd Dispatch, 02 August 1889, p. 4, c. 4)
